The Walnut Street Center solved Washington County's growing need for a new, larger and more efficient, operations and maintenance facility. The project combines the county's Operations, Fleet, Engineering, and Warehouse departments into one multi-use facility. Constructed on a large piece of vacant land at the west end of the county seat of Hillsboro, the project includes offices, warehouse, fleet maintenance and plenty of room for parking, storage, vehicle sheds and truck maneuvering.
The county used a design-build process to insure the facility met the extremely tight budget and time constraints. Tilt-up concrete forms the two story office/warehouse component while the rest of the structures are steel framed, wrapped in zinc and highlighted with the county's colors of dark blue and yellow.
